MyEtherWallet (MEW): free, open-source, self-custody crypto wallet
MyEtherWallet (MEW) is a free, open-source, client-side wallet for Ethereum, EVM-compatible
networks, Bitcoin and Solana. It runs entirely in your browser: private keys are generated and stored on your own
device, and MEW never holds, moves or has access to user funds. With MEW you can send and receive crypto and
NFTs, swap tokens, buy and sell with fiat, stake ETH, trade perpetual futures and trade tokenized stocks — all
without an account, an email address or KYC to create a wallet.
JavaScript is required. The MEW app is a client-side application, so it needs JavaScript to
run. Please enable JavaScript and reload
app.myetherwallet.com to use the wallet.
Key facts about MEW
- Founded in 2015 — MEW is one of the oldest Ethereum wallets still in active development.
- 30+ networks supported, including Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, Polygon, BNB Smart
Chain, Avalanche, zkSync Era, Linea, Scroll, Gnosis, Bitcoin and Solana.
- Non-custodial: 100% of keys stay client-side. MEW holds 0 user funds.
- $0 to use: creating and using a wallet is free; you pay only network gas fees and any
third-party provider fee.
- 3 interface languages: English, Spanish and Chinese.
- Open source on GitHub.
What you can do in MEW
- Send and receive crypto, tokens and NFTs across supported networks.
- Swap tokens through aggregated decentralised exchange liquidity.
- Buy and sell crypto with fiat through integrated payment providers.
- Stake ETH — partial staking (no 32 ETH minimum, powered by Coinbase) and liquid staking
(powered by Lido), both without a lock-up period in MEW.
- Trade perpetual futures and tokenized stocks, 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week.
- Sign and verify messages, and track watch-only addresses.
Self-custody and security
MEW is a self-custody (non-custodial) wallet: your recovery phrase is your account. Because the interface is
client-side and open-source, no server ever receives your keys — which also means that a lost recovery phrase
cannot be reset by support. Never share a recovery phrase or private key with anyone, including people claiming
to be MEW staff, and always confirm you are on
app.myetherwallet.com before entering wallet data.
Ways to connect
You can access a wallet with a recovery phrase or keystore file, with a
Ledger or Trezor hardware wallet, with the
MEW mobile app, with the Enkrypt browser extension, or with any
WalletConnect-compatible wallet. Hardware wallets keep the private
key on a dedicated device, so it is never exposed to the browser.
How Ethereum staking works
Ethereum secures itself with Proof of
Stake: validators pledge ETH and are rewarded for honestly attesting to transactions. Running a full
validator requires 32 ETH, which is why MEW offers partial staking for smaller amounts. Ethereum's move from
Proof of Work to Proof of Stake in 2022 cut the network's energy use by roughly
99.99%. Staking rewards and the full stake can be withdrawn at any time through MEW, though
some providers require a withdrawal request first.
